At an exciting time following many innovative changes to pharmacy staff training, this post will drive forward education and training of pharmacy staff in line with the changing landscape for pharmacy roles. The post also oversees the governance portfolio, including managing the Trust formulary and overseeing research. We seek a forward‑thinking and innovative pharmacist able to work with other professionals driving forward change and development in these areas. They must have expert clinical and leadership skills and a foundation in quality improvement as we look to support best practice. The role will need to embed lived experience across their areas. Highly visible, actively modelling best practice to and coaching our ward teams to ensure that our patients consistently receive the best pharmaceutical care.

The role is full time (37.5 hours per week), including participation in on-call, weekend, early, late and Bank Holiday rotas, as necessary. The post is based in Basildon but this is negotiable, and will involve frequent travel across Essex. The successful candidate will exemplify EPUT values of we care, we learn and we empower, and demonstrate the ability to create a high‑performing team from the outset. Kindness and empathetic leadership are a must, as is the ability to see the bigger picture and take our team in this direction.

Responsibilities
  • Support the development and implementation of the pharmacy strategy in relation to the pharmacy education, training and governance team.
  • Lead on the development and delivery of pharmaceutical education sessions for clinical staff (e.g. prescribers, nurses) within the Trust and participate in the Trust’s induction programme, including training pre‑ and post‑qualification clinical staff and other staff involved in the handling or use of medicines.
  • Lead on education and training within the pharmacy team, ensuring compliance with professional requirements and overseeing staff undertaking post graduate studies, including developing and overseeing progression roles within the team.
  • Lead on clinical supervision within the pharmacy team, supporting the development of clinical supervisors, assessing the quality of supervision and reporting on compliance.
  • Manage the Trust Formulary and Prescribing Guidelines; prepare new drug reviews and support the functioning of the Medicines Management Group in its work around clinical and cost effectiveness.
  • Support innovation within the pharmacy education, training and governance team.
  • Promote and facilitate pharmacy practice‑related research within mental and community health pharmacy services.
  • Ensure safe and appropriate use of medicines to maximise benefits and minimise risk to patients, including regular review of prescriptions, identification of drug interactions and adverse effects, advice on clinical monitoring, compliance with legislation (e.g. Medicines Act, Mental Health Act) and Trust policies and guidelines.
  • Support the provision of a clinical pharmacy service to assigned wards or when supervising others undertaking a clinical pharmacy role.
  • Deputise for the Deputy Chief Pharmacist or Director of Pharmacy as required.
  • Lead the development and delivery of trust‑wide initiatives and projects relating to medicines management as requested by the Deputy Chief Pharmacist or Director of Pharmacy.
  • Work collaboratively with pharmacy colleagues to ensure that the needs of the organisation can be met.
  • Support and participate in clinical audit.
Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should hold a Master’s Degree in Pharmacy or equivalent, be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council and demonstrate evidence of postgraduate training and continuing professional development in clinical pharmacy practice. Experience leading in a non‑specialist trust is encouraged.
