Job summary

Releaf Dispensary Ltd in Leigh, United Kingdom, is seeking a Consultant Doctor on our specialist register to lead initial assessments and prescription decisions for medicinal cannabis patients. This on-site role involves video consultations, MDT participation, and issuing prescriptions from our Leigh base.

You will work within a multidisciplinary team, uphold GMC requirements, maintain compliance, and contribute to patient care with strong communication, organisation, and digital-tool skills.

Qualifications

• Must be on the GMC Specialist Register to prescribe cannabis-based products in the UK.
• Primary medical qualification (MBBS/MD) and full GMC registration.
• Inclusion on GMC Specialist Register (e.g. CCT).
• Right to work in the UK and enhanced DBS where required.

This is a full-time consultant role, five days a week, based on site in Leigh.

About the role

Consultants at Releaf are a pivotal part of the assessment and review of patients, responsible for the safe assessment of patients leading to an appropriate treatment plan. As a consultant on our specialist register, you can sign prescriptions, so you will hold initial consultations by video call, take part in our multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings, and print, sign and scan prescriptions before they go to the pharmacy. You will work from our Leigh base alongside the wider Pharmacy team, with clear accountability and plenty of support from peers.

Clinical duties

• Assess patients at initial consultation (IC) by video call, review the evidence and discuss suitability for medical cannabis.
• Attend MDT meetings to discuss complex cases and approve prescriptions.
• Issue the initial prescription where clinically appropriate.
• Print, sign and scan prescriptions.
• Assign only patients considered complex to non-shared care.
• Review patients at follow-up if non-shared care or capacity requires it.
• If required, take part in the COD rota, holding consultations for emergencies, solving problems, printing and reviewing notes.
• Complete assigned tasks in a timely manner to comply with our service level agreement (SLA).
• Complete tasks assigned to the clinical group to comply with the SLA

Non-clinical duties

• Keep up to date with developments and training on our learning platform
• Keep all mandatory Bluestream training up to date.
• Keep your CPD and knowledge base up to date.
• Maintain annual appraisal and revalidation compliance.

Required skills and qualifications

You must be on the GMC Specialist Register, because only specialist doctors can prescribe cannabis-based products for medicinal use in the UK.

Essential qualifications

• A primary medical qualification (for example MBBS, MD or equivalent).
• Full, unrestricted GMC registration and a current licence to practise.
• Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register, for example through a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT)
• The right to work in the UK, and an enhanced DBS check where required.

Skills and experience

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Confidence using digital tools, scheduling platforms and electronic health record systems.
• Good organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
• Comfortable working with clear accountability, running remote consultations from our Leigh base.
