Job description
Overview

A highly regarded regional law firm is seeking an Associate-level Personal Injury Solicitor or Chartered Legal Executive (CILEx) to join its expanding Military Claims team, based in modern offices in Leeds City Centre.

This is a unique opportunity to work on high-profile, politically sensitive litigation matters involving military personnel and veterans.

You will manage a caseload of complex personal injury claims relating to military service. These include cases involving defective equipment, training injuries, cold injuries, bullying and harassment, discrimination, noise-induced hearing loss and claims under the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme (AFCS) and Armed Forces Pension Schemes.

Candidate Profile

This role is best suited to a qualified solicitor or CILEx lawyer with 3–5 years’ post-qualification experience in personal injury, ideally with a background in military claims or experience bringing claims against the Ministry of Defence. Applications from candidates outside this range will be considered if they demonstrate relevant experience and potential.

You should have experience of high-value and complex litigation in the County Court, High Court and Tribunal Services, and a working knowledge of the Service Complaints System. A strong interest in supporting service personnel and veterans is essential, along with the ability to handle politically sensitive matters with professionalism and discretion.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of military personal injury matters under limited supervision
  • Handle cases from initial instruction through to conclusion
  • Prepare legal documentation and evidence
  • Liaise with clients, experts, counsel and third parties
  • Support other fee earners within the personal injury department as needed
  • Ensure billing and financial matters are handled accurately and efficiently

Key Skills and Requirements

  • Demonstrated interest in military claims and representing armed forces personnel
  • Strong legal research and analytical skills, particularly with complex evidence
  • Excellent written and oral advocacy

This is an outstanding opportunity to develop your career in a niche area of personal injury law within a supportive and progressive legal practice. The firm offers hybrid working, competitive remuneration and genuine scope for professional development and business growth.
