Job Summary

Work as part of a team to support Ongo tenants and disadvantaged young people in building the confidence and skills needed to progress into employment and positively transform their lives. Deliver consistent, high-quality, tailored support such as interview coaching and application guidance to help individuals overcome barriers to securing and sustaining apprenticeships. Maintain regular mentoring, coaching and reviews with apprentices and host employers to ensure strong performance and relationships, while working to exceed targets for apprenticeship‑ready candidates in the talent pool.

Main Responsibilities
  • Interview, assess skills, aspirations and needs of individuals seeking an apprenticeship.
  • Establish relationships and work on a one to one basis, assisting individuals to remove personal barriers, help them to grow in confidence and gain new skills through a range of interventions undertaking regular review meetings and maintain a written individual plan for each client.
  • Meet set team and individual targets – supporting clients into training, volunteering and apprenticeships.
  • Manage a caseload with an understanding of the importance of meeting deadlines and communicating objectives and achievements well.
  • Work with our nominated National Careers Service advisor to prepare CVs and covering letters and carry out job searches for individuals.
  • Work closely with the recruitment team to keep up to date on upcoming opportunities to prepare and upskill young people to meet demand.
  • Work with the in‑house trainer to deliver a monthly group training session on gaining an apprenticeship.
  • Work as part of the team to advertise the service, including social media marketing, using case studies and representing the company at events as appropriate.
  • Develop professional relationships with private businesses, public and third sector organisations to develop paid and voluntary opportunities for young people.
  • Ability to work with people in a way that they are not just defined by their situation, and to adopt the other person's frame of reference and be non‑judgmental.
  • To participate in personal support and supervision, undertake personal development training as appropriate to the post.
  • Challenge behaviour which creates risk and establish agreed boundaries and expectations, assisting people to develop greater control over their own behaviour. Identify signs that people are at risk and where there may be a need for protective measures. Report any suspicions of risk to the appropriate person/or organisation.
Skills, Competence, Experience Required
  • A relevant coaching/mentoring/IAG qualification.
  • Proven experience of supporting young people to develop confidence and new skills.
  • Experience of providing life skills that, in turn, link to employment support services.
  • Understanding of the employment needs and difficulties of people who experience mental health problems and of supporting individuals to obtain and sustain employment.
  • An understanding of the needs of young people who may have no experience of employment or training and limited educational achievements.
  • The ability to make a comprehensive assessment of an individual's situation and needs.
  • To develop, implement and review risk management plans and devise support plans and activities to meet these needs.
  • The ability to facilitate group training sessions to supports the needs of individuals.
  • Excellent interpersonal & communication skills (face to face, by telephone).
  • Organisational ability to handle multiple priorities, act quickly and decisively, work to changing deadlines and pay attention to detail.
  • A good team player.
  • Good general education including numeracy, literacy and writing skills.
  • Ability to use a range of IT packages including word processing, spreadsheets, data bases, PowerPoint, Outlook, email and the internet.
  • A strong commitment towards Equality and Diversity principles.
  • Willing to work flexibly in response client's needs, including occasional out‑of‑office hours including evenings and weekends where necessary.
  • Full, clean driving licence and the ability to transport yourself across North Lincolnshire.
  • This role requires an enhanced DBS check.
