Personal Care Assistants for a young adult @ £13.74/hr/Haltwhistle - 48 hrs of shift work
Apply at UKCIL.com. Reference: 98b07edc

We are looking for a confident, outgoing and friendly person to provide support to a 21‑year‑old young man. He is very sociable, loves being out and about, and enjoys the company of others. The purpose of your role will be to enable his independence, allow him to take part in activities he enjoys and help him meet new people and have new experiences. You should ideally have experience supporting people with learning disabilities and know how to deal with various difficult situations. You should be compassionate and be able to explain why he may not be able to do something, rather than simply saying “no”.

This young man has a learning disability and developmental delay. You will get to know his way of communicating, his personality and his likes and dislikes as you become familiar with him. You will support him with going to the shops, visiting friends and family, and taking part in various activities such as football and swimming.

Each day will be different, depending on what he wants to do, so you should be prepared to be flexible. There is some personal care involved in this role, including support with toileting, personal hygiene and cleanliness, as well as applying creams (details will be discussed further in the interview). You will also provide domestic support for prompting him to keep his home clean and tidy. We would also like our PA to be able to suggest community activities, so you should be proactive in finding various activities to take part in. We would prefer you to be a car driver with your own transport, though public transport can be used; travel expenses will be met by your employer.

Hours

48 hours per week broken down into day shifts and night shifts. Day times: 3pm–10pm; night times: 10pm–8am. Days to be covered: Sundays, Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Main Duties
  • Support with enabling independence.
  • Assist with taking part in activities and pursuing hobbies and interests.
  • Ensure safety when out and about.
  • Support with personal care when required.
  • Domestic support to keep his home tidy.

Rate of pay £13.74 per hour for day hours; £12.21 per hour for sleeping nights. Holidays are 5.6 weeks per year, pro‑rata.

Person Specification
  • Ideally have experience working as a support worker with children or adults, especially with learning disabilities.
  • Have a positive understanding towards people with disabilities.
  • Have a genuine interest in working within social care.
  • Have a high degree of initiative.
  • Be punctual and reliable.
  • Be flexible.
  • Have a happy, positive and caring nature.
