Job description
Overview

Personal Care Assistant / Support Worker required to assist a young man with a Physical Disability, Learning Disability and Epilepsy and a young woman with Autism, both living in the family home in Stonehouse. You would provide one-to-one care, supporting each person (brother and sister) individually at separate times (5 hours per week each) to provide assistance in the community including participation in social activities.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with emergency medication
  • Assist and participate in chosen activities
  • Moving and assisting – pushing manual wheelchair (only required for long distance walks)
  • Support with daily living tasks to promote independent living
  • Drive as required and use your own vehicle – mileage allowance will be paid

Must take a proactive and innovative approach to support and encourage the individuals to be involved in activities suited to their needs.

Preferred activities

Favourite activities are 10 pin bowling, music, playing games consoles, going out for lunch (e.g., McDonald’s) and garden centres.

Experience and Skills
  • Epilepsy experience is desirable but not essential as training will be provided
  • Warm and friendly nature and desire to work within a caring role
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills are essential
Hours and Employment

Hours of Work (with a degree of flexibility)

  • Recruiting for one position
  • Guaranteed permanent position of 10 hours per week
  • Days and times: Typically – (to be discussed at interview)
    • Wednesday: 10:00–15:00
    • Friday: 18:30–21:30
    • Occasional weekends and evenings may be required – to be discussed at interview
Pay

Hourly rate: £12.60 per hour
