A local government council is seeking a part-time female personal assistant in Barrow-upon-Humber. The role involves supporting a non-verbal child with personal care and recreational activities, focusing on safety and empathy. Candidates should be patient and preferably familiar with British Sign Language or Makaton. Flexibility is needed, and driving is preferred. Remuneration is £12.21 per hour for 6 hours per week during school holidays.
Our client is looking for a personal assistant to support their daughter, who requires support with personal care and recreational activities, with a view to accessing the community eventually. She has significant Global Development Delay, mild hearing loss and is being assessed for Autism. Our client's daughter is also non-verbal and utilises a transport buggy on busses and accessible transport.
Due to the provision of personal care, our client has the right to request a carer of a specific sex. This vacancy is restricted for women only.
The successful candidate should be safety-oriented, patient, physically able to lift a small child, confident monitoring behaviour and empathetic. They should also be familiar with, or able to learn some, British Sign Language/Makaton, and be supportive of our client's daughter's communication needs.
Our client's daughter has high sensory needs, moving around a lot for stimulation. She loves music and singing, and enjoys swimming, playing with bubbles and going to farms/feeding animals. She particularly enjoys going to FunForest. Our client's daughter can hurt herself when overwhelmed, so it is important that the successful candidate is mindful of this.
We are collectively organised around the people and place of North Lincolnshire. Together we ensure that our communities are safe, well, prosperous and connected. We are ambitious for North Lincolnshire, we want our area to be the #BestPlace for our residents by being the #BestCouncil we can be. We achieve this through living our values - equality of opportunity, excellence, integrity and self-responsibility - in all that we do.
The role is 6 hours per week school holidays, paid at £12.21ph. The hours are to be worked on Mondays or Wednesdays (to be discussed with our client) - but applicants should be mindful that a degree of flexibility is required to accommodate hospital appointments. The role is based in New Holland.
Our client would prefer a driver with their own vehicle, which could accommodate a pushchair and a rear-facing car seat (both of which would be provided by our client).
Due to the nature of the role an enhanced DBS will need to be completed, which we will fund.
