A Direct Payments recipient’s family in Pembrokeshire are looking to employ 4 Personal assistant for between 27-45 hours a week. The support that the client requires throughout the night includes hoisting into bed, positioning appropriately, turning throughout the night (depending on the night this can be done between approximately 4 to 15 times per night, i.e. if they spend a lot of time in his wheelchair throughout the day, or travels long journeys for appointments, they will become 'sore' due to the effort it takes them to hold themselves up and this results in needing repositioning more frequently in the night). They are also diagnosed with Epilepsy and may have seizures in the night. The seizures are unpredictable in frequency and severity, worst case scenario, the seizures affect their breathing and immediate action is required. The client is doubly incontinent and therefore requires changing through the night. The client’s sleep patterns are irregular and sometimes they can be awake the majority of the night, therefore requiring more support. This post is funded through the Direct Payments scheme, which aims to enable the client to manage their support and meet their care needs independently. The successful applicant should be friendly and supportive and be able to work flexibly to meet the care needs of the client.
