A provider supporting personal care in Milford Haven is seeking a Personal Assistant for a young individual diagnosed with Autism. The role requires developing a trustworthy relationship, supporting personal hygiene, and engaging in activities. A full driving licence and knowledge of Autism are essential. The position offers a flexible work pattern with hourly pay of £12.60 for 6 hours per week.

Reporting to: The Direct Payments Recipient (The Direct Payments Recipient is the employer and they hold all the employer’s responsibilities associated with this role. Pembrokeshire County Council supports them to fulfil their employer obligations).

Introduction

A young person in Pembrokeshire, who has been diagnosed with ASD, is looking to employ a personal assistant to support them with their care needs. Must have experience or knowledge personally or professionally of Autism and have an understanding of the effects this has on the individual and family.

This young man enjoys playing games, baking and watching videos on YouTube. This young man is unable to cope with a lot of people, loud noises or unfamiliar environments without support and reassurance.

Responsibilities
  • Develop a reliable and trusting relationship with the person.
  • Encourage personal hygiene
  • Ensure a structured set of activities are maintained.
  • Support the person to access activities of importance.
  • Access suitable community groups.
  • Develop one-on-one interactions with the person whilst undertaking outings out of doors and activities, which will include physical activities
  • Communicate with the person’s family and wider support network.
  • Support the employer to develop independent living skills.
  • Provide companionship in the employer’s home, including engaging in conversation with the employer and providing them with social interaction
  • Ensuring the employer’s safety at all times during your working hours.
  • Carry out any other reasonable tasks that are requested by the employer during your working hours.
  • Be mindful of safeguarding issues, and feedback any concerns to the relevant authority.
  • Be responsible for contacting the GP, Social Worker or Local Authority should the employer need medical assistance.

Other Requirements

A full, clean driving licence and use of a car is required. You must have business use on your vehicle insurance to be able to use the vehicle within work hours.
