Job Description

A Direct Payments client in Pembrokeshire is looking to employ a Personal Assistant to support them with their care needs. This post is funded through the Direct Payments scheme, which aims to enable the client to manage their support and meet their care needs independently. The successful applicant should be friendly and supportive and be able to work flexibly to meet the care needs of the client. They should be able to support the client to make their own decisions around their care needs and encourage them to maintain their independence.

Main duties
  • Trips out shopping
  • Provide support to DP recipient and mother with medical appointments
  • Develop life skills such as cooking and cleaning
  • Eating meals that they have cooked together
  • Provide mum with respite for her to spend time catching up on chores, run errands and cook meals.
  • Providing for the Personal Care needs of the employer, such as washing and toileting
  • Supporting the employer with encouragement in gaining independence
  • Enabling the employer to interact socially in their community
  • Providing support to the employer whilst shopping and attending activities of interest
  • Supporting the employer to develop independent living skills
  • To provide companionship in the employer’s home, including engaging in conversation with the employer and providing them with social interaction
  • Encouraging the employer to attend appointments
  • Ensuring the employer’s safety at all times during your working hours
  • To carry out any other reasonable tasks that are requested by the employer during your working hours
  • Be mindful of safeguarding issues, and feedback any concerns to the relevant authority
  • Be responsible for contacting the GP, Social Worker or Local Authority should the employer need medical assistance
