Job summary

A community support service in Tewkesbury seeks a part-time Personal Assistant to assist a 17-year-old autistic young woman. The role involves building a trusting relationship, supporting social activities, and providing neuro-affirming support. Ideal candidates will be kind, reliable, and have experience with autism. Compensation includes £15.50 per hour for employed applicants and £18.00 per hour for self-employed.

Job description
The Role

We are looking for a kind, calm, and patient Personal Assistant to join our small home‑based support team. The role is to support a nearly 17‑year‑old autistic young woman with a PDA profile who is situationally mute. She has a wonderful sense of humour and a range of interests, including playing bass guitar, creating art, vintage clothes, charity shops and spending time with her much‑loved dog. This is a rewarding role for someone who enjoys making a difference in a young person’s life while working as part of a supportive and friendly team.

Main Duties
  • Building a trusted and caring 1:1 relationship
  • Supporting with trips out of the house (social, leisure, and everyday activities)
  • Encouraging independence and wellbeing at home, including support with cooking
  • Providing neuro‑affirming support, with an understanding of autism, anxiety, and spiky sensory profiles
  • Working in a calm, flexible and respectful way that values her interests and preferences

Employment Details

For employed applicants: this role may be subject to a DBS check; your employer may also ask for you to supply references. You must be able to prove the right to work in the UK. No sponsorships are available.

For self‑employed applicants: the person undertaking this role may be requested to supply evidence of DBS clearance and/or references where appropriate.

Hours: 6 hours per week

Pay: £18.00 per hour Self‑Employed; £15.50 per hour Employed
