Job summary

Gumtree is seeking a kind, reliable Personal Assistant to support our 5-year-old son in Sheffield. The role covers early mornings (7:00–9:00) and evenings (16:00–21:00), four days every fortnight, with potential additional hours during school holidays.

You will help with routines, meals, homework, play, and local outings to foster independence. The ideal candidate has experience with autism/SEND and a background in childcare, teaching assistance, or related fields, plus a full UK driving licence

Responsibilities

The role

We are looking for a kind, confident and reliable Personal Assistant to support our 5-year-old son, who is autistic. The role would particularly suit a Teaching Assistant, SEND practitioner, childcare professional or someone with experience supporting autistic children who is interested in additional part-time work.

Morning support (7am-9am) will involve helping with his morning routine, getting him ready for the day and taking him to school.

Evening support (4pm-9pm) will involve supporting him with his usual after-school and evening routine, including meals, homework, play and activities, occasional local outings and helping him settle for the evening.

There may also be additional and longer hours during school holidays, with exact arrangements to be confirmed.

We are looking for someone who can build a positive and trusting relationship with our son, engage him in activities and encourage his independence while providing the consistency and structure that works well for him.

The position will be formally employed through a Direct Payment arrangement, with funding supported by Sheffield City Council alongside a parental contribution. The successful applicant will be subject to the appropriate DBS and employment checks.
