Job description
Overview

PERSONAL ASSISTANT REQUIRED for a 19 year old in the Ammanford area. 4 HOURS PER WEEK £13.00 to £13.25 per hour.

The individual is currently transitioning and is receiving support from the Welsh Gender Service; therefore, experience with LGBTQIA+ issues is essential. The individual is on the autism spectrum, experiences communication challenges as a Selective Mutist, and requires support around speech and language. The individual tends to have difficulty leaving the house due to sensory needs, fear of being judged, and social anxiety.

The individual’s mum would like a PA to start by supporting within the home to build rapport and trust, with the aim of enabling future engagement in the community and activities he enjoys. The primary focus initially is home-based support to benefit the individual. The individual loves to talk about his pet snakes and bearded dragons and has a strong interest in reptiles; the personal assistant should be comfortable around animals and reptiles.

Responsibilities
  • Supporting the employer with encouragement in gaining independence
  • Enabling the employer to interact socially in their community
  • Providing support to the employer whilst shopping and attending activities of interest
  • Supporting the employer to develop independent living skills
  • Providing companionship in the employer’s home, including engaging in conversation and providing social interaction
  • Encouraging the employer to attend appointments
  • Ensuring the employer’s safety at all times during working hours
  • Carrying out any other reasonable tasks as requested during working hours
  • Ensuring compliance with the Data Protection Act
  • Being mindful of safeguarding issues and reporting any concerns to Carmarthenshire County Council immediately
  • Being responsible for contacting the GP, Social Worker or Local Authority should medical assistance be needed
Relationships & Job Working Environment

Relationships: Development of a supportive and caring relationship with the employer; undertaking duties in a friendly and helpful manner; ability to contact people on behalf of the employer when necessary.

Working environment: Working in the employer’s home and supporting them to access facilities and community activities.
