Job summary

Disability North in Newcastle upon Tyne (Dinnington area) is seeking a Personal Assistant to support a non-verbal 11-year-old with outings and activities such as swimming and visits to the zoo or parks. You will work with his family to learn how he communicates and adapt activities to his needs.

Knowledge of Autism, Sensory Processing Disorder and Pica is beneficial. A valid driver’s license and permission to work in the U.K.

Qualifications

• Non-verbal child; effective communication is essential.
• Knowledge of Autism, Sensory Processing Disorder and Pica is beneficial.
• Driver with mobility-vehicle experience preferred; insurance requires 25+.

Responsibilities

• Support Mayson to get out and about for activities like swimming, zoo visits, and park/forest walks.
• Learn the child’s needs from Mum and family and adapt to communication methods.
• Be available with flexible hours during term-time and school holidays.

Job description

Location: Newcastle upon Tyne (Dinnington area)

Hours of work:

Term time: 12 hours per fortnight

School holidays: 30 hours per week (5 hours per day)

Hours to be used flexibly

Rate of pay: £20.00 per hour plus mileage in working hours

Driver essential. To drive mobility vehicle (must be over 25 for insurance purposes)

My name is Mason, I’m a happy and very energetic 11 year old, and I’m looking for a Personal Assistant to support me to get out and about to do some of my favourite activities, as well as visit places that I love exploring. This includes going swimming, trips to the zoo and walks in parks and forest areas.

You will initially spend time with my Mum and family, learning more about me and my needs, as I’m non-verbal, so you will need to know how I communicate. Having some knowledge of Autism, Sensory Processing Disorder and Pica is beneficial for working with me.
