Darlington Association on Disability is seeking a Personal Assistant to support a 16-year-old autistic young person at home and in the community. The role involves 1:1 care, maintaining a calm routine, and ensuring safety during activities outdoors.
You will work closely with the family to provide consistent guidance, monitor for dysregulation, and respond with patience and a calm approach in a home setting and in public places.
The family are looking for a kind, reliable, and patient Personal Assistant to support a 16-year-old autistic young person at home and out in the community.
He is non-verbal, very active, and needs 1:1 support at all times. He thrives in a calm, low-stimulation environment with clear routines. He wears nappies and requires full personal care.
He loves being outdoors, visiting parks and soft play centres, and these activities are an important part of his day. As he has limited awareness of danger and can run off, you’ll need to be alert and attentive at all times.
At times when he becomes dysregulated, he may hit out. You’ll be supported with clear guidance and strategies from the family, so confidence, patience, and a calm approach are key.
