Job summary

Disability North in Newcastle upon Tyne is seeking a Personal Assistant to support Hala, a 7-year-old girl who is autistic and non-verbal. The role involves accompanying her in the community, helping her access outdoor activities and parks, and adapting communication methods to suit her needs.

The position offers flexible hours: 6 hours during term time and 11 hours in school holidays, at £14.50 per hour. We are looking for someone kind, calm, patient, reliable and committed to long-term

Qualifications

We are We looking for a kind, patient and understanding Personal Assistant to support Hala, a 7-year-old girl who is autistic, non-verbal and has a global developmental delay. Hala's family would love to find someone who can build a trusting and positive relationship with her and provide consistent support over the long term.

Hala enjoys:

• Sea animals and animal-related activities
• Visiting Ouseburn Farm
• Being outdoors
• Going to parks
• Having large, safe spaces where she can run and explore

The role will involve supporting Hala to enjoy activities in the community, develop her confidence and independence, and explore different ways of communicating.

We are looking for someone who is:

• Kind, calm and patient
• Reliable and committed to providing long‑term support
• Understanding of autism and developmental delay
• Willing to learn and develop non‑verbal communication methods
• Able to follow Hala's lead and recognise her individual communication
• Confident supporting a child outdoors and in the community
• Attentive and able to maintain Hala's safety

Previous experience of supporting autistic, non-verbal or disabled children is preferred.
