Job Purpose

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Personal Assistant to build a safe, trusting and consistent relationship with a neurodivergent young person with a history of trauma. This is a rewarding opportunity to support her in feeling secure, understood and empowered, while helping her to access meaningful activities, develop confidence, and enjoy positive experiences both at home and in the community.

You will take a gentle, person-centred approach, working at the young person's pace and responding to her individual emotional, sensory and developmental needs. By providing calm, consistent and attuned support, you will play a vital role in helping her to feel safe, build resilience and develop a sense of independence over time.

  • Provide calm, consistent 1:1 support to a neurodivergent child using child-led, trauma-informed and neuroaffirming approach in the family home and, when appropriate, in community settings.
  • Build and maintain a trusting, predictable relationship through a patient, trauma-informed approach.
  • Support emotional regulation through co-regulation, attuned interaction and a low-demand approach.
  • Engage in child-led activities, interests and play, following the child's pace and preferences.
  • Respond calmly and sensitively during periods of distress, anxiety or dysregulation.
  • Support gradual participation in community activities when the child feels ready.
  • Work collaboratively with parents and follow agreed support strategies.
  • Adapt support to meet the child's emotional, sensory and developmental needs.

Summary terms and conditions
  • The rate of pay for this position is £12.89 per hour
  • Mileage paid at 55p per mile
  • You will be reimbursed for any agreed expenses incurred as part of the role
  • Hours and days of work: Flexible and agreed in advance
    • Half-day sessions during school holidays
    • Occasional weekend support
    • Ad hoc/emergency cover (subject to availability)
  • The annual holiday entitlement for this position will be equivalent to the work I would normally expect to be done during 5.6 consecutive weeks.
  • Should this job role include any of the following duties: food preparation, moving & handling, chemical handling (general household cleaning products) or the handling of medication, you will be required to undertake mandatory training.

  • A satisfactory enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check, the cost of which will be covered by the employer.
  • Satisfactory references from two referees, one of which must be your current or last employer.
  • Completion of a satisfactory probationary period of 6 months.
