Personal Assistant needed for a wonderful 6-year-old boy in St Columb.
We are looking for a confident, caring and experienced Personal Assistant to support our amazing 6-year-old autistic son. He is autistic (Level 3) with an intellectual disability and is a lively, physical, fun-loving little boy who needs someone calm, patient and skilled to help him thrive.
He engages with the world in a very physical way and needs constant supervision to keep him safe. He occasionally uses a buggy for safety. He is non-speaking and communicates in his own unique ways, so someone who can observe, tune in, and follow his lead is essential.
He loves being active—soft play, trampolines, swimming, exploring and anything that lets him move! He also really values his quiet time and prefers people in his space only when he initiates. The right person will understand how to respect his boundaries, give him space when needed, and connect gently and calmly.
Busy environments can sometimes dysregulate him, so experience with complex needs and challenging behaviours is essential. We are looking for someone who can stay calm, confident and consistent when supporting him through moments of overwhelm.
You’ll support him at weekends and during school holidays, helping him enjoy 1:1 activities and join in family outings safely. Personal care is required.
If you’re compassionate, confident, and experienced—and would love to support a little boy who will form a deep bond once he feels safe—then we would love to hear from you.
We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All offers of employment will be subject to the successful candidate undertaking an enhanced DBS check, the administration process will be undertaken by Cornwall Council.
To apply, please send your CV or request an application form. Your CV or application form will be passed onto the family for their consideration. Due to the high number of applicants that are received for various roles, it is not possible to inform applicants if they have been unsuccessful.
