Overview

Personal Assistant to support my 12 year old son. My son is non-speaking and has Global Development Delay and medically controlled Epilepsy. He is lovely, funny and affectionate, who can be fairly challenging at times. The right person will be enthusiastic and engage fully with my son. Be willing to suggest activities indoor and outdoor alongside my son’s established favourite places to visit.

Responsibilities
  • Engage with my son, support his activities and accompany him on indoor and outdoor visits.
  • Be physically fit and able to adapt plans as necessary, responding to my son’s cues and needs.
  • Provide continuous supervision for safety, including being confident in water and keeping him safe during swimming or water-related activities.
  • Support and implement activities with enthusiasm, energy, pro-activity, patience and empathy.
Qualifications and Qualities
  • Previous experience of working with people with learning disabilities is essential.
  • Energetic, fun-loving, pro-active, patient, positive and extremely empathetic.
  • Very confident in water; water safety and supervision are essential.
  • Full driving license and own car (expenses paid).
  • PVG Scheme Membership or Scheme Update; the successful applicant will be required to obtain it, with costs covered by the candidate.
Details
  • Rate of Pay: £16.50 per hour
  • 8 hours per week, with overtime available and additional hours during school holidays.
  • Saturday: 5 hours (start time around 10:00am, flexible)
  • Wednesday: 3 hours, paid to take my son swimming at the local pool
  • Start date: ASAP
