About the Role

We are looking for an energetic and understanding Personal Assistant (PA) to support a teenage boy with Down’s Syndrome and Autism during school holidays. The role involves providing fun, engaging support for activities outside of the family home.

Hours can be arranged flexibly with the successful candidate — typically three weekday sessions of around five hours each.

About the Client

He is a happy, easy-going and well-behaved teenager who loves being out and about. He is passionate about sports and enjoys:

  • Playing football in open spaces
  • Visiting parks with swings and climbing frames
  • Crazy or dinosaur golf
  • Ten-pin bowling and arcade games on rainy days
  • Going to the cinema
  • Eating out and trying different restaurants
  • Listening to his driving playlist on short car trips
  • Travelling on buses, trains, and trams for fun days out

He can be situationally non-verbal and benefits from support with communication. He follows simple instructions and conversations, and becomes more communicative as relationships build.

Role & Responsibilities
  • Support and accompany the client during leisure and community activities
  • Encourage participation, confidence, and social interaction
  • Keep him safe and supported at all times
  • Provide gentle communication support and encouragement
  • Assist with personal care as required (including toileting and hand washing)
  • Help ensure each day is positive, fun, and tailored to his interests
Person Specification

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • Experienced or familiar with supporting people with special educational needs (SEN)
  • Patient, understanding, and kind, with a calm, encouraging manner
  • Comfortable supporting a young person with communication difficulties
  • Energetic and active, willing to join in with sports and outdoor activities
  • Reliable, honest, and flexible with a good sense of humour
  • Willing to learn about the client’s individual needs and preferences
  • Able to support personal care with dignity and respect
  • A driving licence and access to a car are preferred, though not essential
