Job description

A personal assistant is required to support a 15-yr old autistic male with learning difficulties, global developmental delay, and limited motor skills for 2-4 hours for one evening, weekly.

The role will initially consist of supporting him at home and will eventually lead to taking him out to access activities in the community.

The young male enjoys museums, swimming, fairground rides and going on the swing in the park.

In the home environment he enjoys playing with toys, especially animals, gaming with his PlayStation and going on the swing and trampoline.

There may be times where there are continence issues and personal care will be required.

The young male is verbal but also has limited understanding, so care will need to be taken when outdoors.

The role is more suited to someone who has a car to take him to activities, and someone can get involved and have fun times with him indoors.

Local knowledge of outdoor activities would be advantageous but not essential.

Applicants must have experience/understanding of working with children with ASD/Anxiety and possess the ability to deal with behaviours associated with children with limited communication. Please note that the family have a small dog. Hours of work: 2-4 weekend hours per week or flexible hours & days that can be negotiated following a successful interview.

Rate of pay: £13.45 per hour. To apply, if you are dependable, kind, patient and friendly, this would be a perfect post for you, and if you are interested and would like to arrange an interview, please email your interest to direct.paymentsnewport.gov.uk and quote ref: BY.
