Job summary

A local authority partner in Greenwich is seeking a Personal Advisor for a 3-month role to support young people aged 16 and above in their transition to independent living. The advisor will manage a caseload, providing guidance in education, employment, housing, and personal development. Candidates should have experience working with vulnerable individuals and be available immediately. A DBS check is required.

Qualifications

  • Experience working directly with young people or vulnerable individuals.
  • Ability to maintain case records and manage confidential information.

We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Greenwich to assist with the appointment of a Personal Advisor - Care Leavers, on a 3-month contract, likely to be extended at the client's discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Rate of Pay:

£18.30 - £23.05 per Hour

Summary:

The Personal Advisor will provide direct support to young people aged 16 and above who are eligible for leaving care services. The post holder will manage an allocated caseload, offering practical, emotional, social and financial guidance to help young people successfully transition to independent adulthood. The role involves building trusting, supportive relationships that motivate care leavers to engage in education, training and employment, secure suitable accommodation, manage finances, develop resilience and maintain emotional well‑being. The Personal Advisor is a key professional for the young person and will coordinate multi‑agency support in line with statutory responsibilities and local procedures.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage and support a caseload of care leavers aged 16+.
  • Contribute to the assessment and preparation of Pathway Plans for each young person.
  • Develop positive, sustained relationships to encourage engagement and independence.
  • Provide practical support around housing, employment, education, training, health and financial management.
  • Assist young people through key life skills including budgeting, household tasks and managing responsibilities.
  • Identify and report concerns relating to the safety or welfare of young people or vulnerable individuals.
Knowledge:
  • Understanding of legislation relevant to care leavers (e.g., Children Act 1989, Care Leavers Regulations 2010, Planning Transition for Adulthood).
  • Knowledge of safeguarding practices and risk management.
  • Understanding of issues affecting young people in care and transitioning to independence.
Experience:
  • Experience of working directly with young people or vulnerable individuals in a supportive or advisory role.
  • Experience of multi‑agency working and partnership collaboration.
  • Experience of maintaining case records, preparing reports and managing confidential information.
  • Experience supporting individuals to develop independence skills (e.g., budgeting, tenancy support, employment pathways).

  • This role requires an Enhanced DBS.
