Job description

To enrich the lives of the students of SGC by offering musical experiences appropriate to the needs and aspirations of school.

Personal Specification
  • You will be a committed, enthusiastic musician and teacher able to motivate and inspire pupils, and to communicate with conviction and sensitivity. You should be receptive to new ideas and to be able to work as part of a professional team of teachers dedicated to offering high quality music education.
Operational Responsibilities
  • To plan, prepare and deliver teaching duties appropriate to the skills of the teacher. This may include individual, small group, as well as ensemble training
  • To teach according to a recognised scheme of work adopted and approved by the Director of Music
  • To liaise with schools and parents in order to meet the individual needs of each student
  • To recruit new students to instrumental tuition through demonstrations and performances in and out of school
  • To promote additional opportunities for learning, including music centres, courses and other activities provided by the school
  • To ensure students are given performance opportunities throughout the year as part of their curriculum
  • To have up-to-date knowledge of, arrange and prepare students for instrumental and school examinations as appropriate
  • To maintain up to date records of SGC owned instruments being used by students by ensuring inventory is kept up to date.
  • To ensure the general safety and well-being of students observing appropriate conduct and class management
  • To ensure all premises in which activities take place receive due care and respect
  • To attend INSET training and other relevant meetings at the request of the Director of Music
  • Ensure code of conduct of the school is followed at all times and all safeguarding responsibilities including training are completed.
  • To attend and participate in end of term school concerts.
  • To complete any relevant tasks connected to the role as required by the Director of Music.
