Perioperative Theatre Practitioner (Anaesthetic & Scrub)

Job summary

The post holder will work with the Theatre manager and multidisciplinary team to monitor and maintain nursing/HCPC policies and staff development within the perioperative team. Band 5 nurses/ODPs operate across Main Theatres, DCU areas and receiving units, providing compassionate, evidence-based care from admission to discharge.

They will be anaesthetic and scrub trained, act as role models, and support the delivery of safe, effective patient care while adhering to Trust policies and procedures.

Qualifications

• Registered nurse (NMC) or Operating Department Practitioner with perioperative principles.
• Perioperative training including anaesthetic and scrub skills.
• Ability to work across theatres, DCU and receiving unit.
• Commitment to evidence-based practice and patient-centred care.

Responsibilities

• Deliver prescribed care and treatments with sensitivity and professionalism.
• Assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care from admission to discharge.
• Take charge of defined patients/workload and prioritise in a 24-hour cycle.
• Administer medicines in line with Trust policy and infection control rules.
• Manage complaints, PALs and incident reporting as required.
• Support ward/department operations, including stores and equipment tidying.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary team to ensure high-quality patient care.
