Job overview

The specialist perinatal trauma and loss service (PETALS) are pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for a Duty Mental Health Practitioner (Band 6) to join our compassionate, supportive and innovative team.

PETALS is supporting the delivery of the NHS Long Term Plan and integrate maternity, reproductive health and psychological therapy. PETALS provides therapeutic and psychological support and care to women/birthing people and families who experience significant fear of childbirth (tokophobia) and/or perinatal loss and trauma, directly as a result of their perinatal/neonatal/maternity journey.

We are looking to recruit a practitioner from a variety of backgrounds including Registered Mental Health Nurses (RMN), Occupational Therapists (OT) and/or Social Work.

Full support and training is available for this specialist role and therefore perinatal experience is not necessarily required. Particularly if you have experience in a previous mental health duty or triage roles.

This post is subject to an enhanced with children's and adult's barred list Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be part of a multi-disciplinary team, contributing to the effective provision of psychological therapy and will be part of GMMH’s Perinatal Mental and Infant Mental Health Services delivering direct care to an identified caseload.

The role of the Mental Health Practitioner is to receive all calls into the service that require clinical input and be able to provide immediate support, expert advice, signposting service users to the most appropriate service, triage and initial assessments, as well as leading and co facilitating PETALS group interventions. Effective risk management and confident workload prioritisation are essential within this fast‑paced, dynamic role
