Job summary

Monash University in Brixworth seeks a Performance Development Engineer to develop Power Unit performance ideas that advance on-track performance and optimize the energy budget.

You will drive accurate test preparation, efficient testing, and detailed data analysis while collaborating with Thermofluids Simulation, Controls and Calibration, Turbo Team, Product Validation and Test Engineering. This permanent role offers a challenging path to contribute to Formula One performance.

Qualifications

  • 2:1 degree in mechanical engineering or similar discipline.
  • Desirable 3–5 years in Thermofluids Performance Development.
  • Experience with high-performance engines and engine test facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop Power Unit performance ideas leading to on-circuit improvements.
  • Design and deliver top-class tests to validate performance ideas.
  • Analyse data and report findings to drive improvements.
  • Collaborate with Thermofluids Simulation, Controls and Calibration, Turbo Team, and Test Engineering.
  • Communicate learnings in highly technical environments.

The Performance Development Engineer is responsible for developing Power Unit performance ideas that lead to an on-circuit performance improvement. These performance improvements can come from many areas of development, such as increased power unit output, reduced heat rejection, improved driveability and better use of fuel/electrical energy budget.


Within the Performance Development – Delivery team, such development is driven via the delivery of top class testing experiments which involves:



  • Accurate test preparation

  • Efficient and targeted testing execution

  • Detailed data analysis and reporting

  • Innovation and ideation


The Performance Development Engineer is responsible both for the development of the future Power Unit specification and for supporting the continuous improvement stream on the current Power Unit one.


To deliver on these responsibilities, the Performance Development Engineer will work with a variety of engineering teams and departments such as Thermofluids Simulation, Controls and Calibration, Turbo Team, Product Validation and Test Engineering.


This is an exciting and challenging opportunity, which allows you to contribute directly to our performance on track. You will actively contribute to the common goal of delivering the best Formula One Power Unit of the grid.

Have experience of…


  • Delivery top performance within highly demanding environment.

  • Running engines on dynos.

  • Desirable: 3-5 years of professional experience in a relevant Thermofluids Performance Development role


Demonstrate knowledge of…


  • High performance engines and systems.

  • Engine test facilities.

  • A particular area of performance development, e.g. gas exchange, combustion, boosting, calibration.

  • Combustion engine thermodynamic measurements techniques and sensors.


Hold these qualifications…


  • 2:1 degree (minimum) in mechanical engineering or similar discipline.

  • Technically creative and curious.
