Job summary

Safran Seats in Wales is seeking a Perceived Quality Engineer to lead product acceptance and customer-focused quality improvements for aircraft interiors. You will collaborate with designers, engineers, suppliers, and Class-A modellers to ensure top-notch perceived quality across all touchpoints.

The role requires a mechanical engineering background, Catia V5 CAD skills, and a demonstrated ability to drive design decisions that enhance end-user perception.

Qualifications

  • Proficient CAD skills and Catia V5 capability.
  • Ability to assess product aesthetics and user perception.
  • Experience creating and maintaining Product Acceptance Documents.
  • Collaborative design interface with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to capture and share lessons learned from projects.

Responsibilities

  • Drive Perceived Quality: Set targets, create and maintain the Product Acceptance Document, and analyse design choices to maximize customer satisfaction.
  • Collaborate & Influence: Work in a cross-functional team (up to 20 people) including designers, engineers, suppliers, and Class-A modellers. Advocate for best design standards and manufacturing methods.
  • Lead from Experience: Gather and share lessons and benchmarks, resolve design risks, and propose improvements based on robust analysis and customer-oriented thinking.
  • Be the Customer Champion: Engage with customers to converge on expectations, conduct Perceived Quality (PQ) scorings, and ensure that every product touchpoint shines - visually, audibly, and tactilely.
  • Promote Excellence: Share a Perceived Quality mindset across the team, participate in network meetings across Safran Seats, and drive continuous improvement.

Your Role

What You'll Bring
  • A relevant degree (or equivalent qualification/experience) in mechanical engineering or a closely related discipline
  • CAD Skills, ideally with Catia V5
  • Design for Perception: Strong ability to analyze aesthetic, tactile, auditory, and visual aspects that shape end-user quality perception.
  • Product Acceptance Oversight: Creation and maintenance of Product Acceptance Documents, scoring, and validation of perceived quality targets.
  • Design and Engineering Interface: Direct experience working with Class-A surface modellers, product designers, and engineering teams to challenge, steer, and validate design decisions in line with quality standards.
  • Lessons Learned: Capability to collect, synthesize, and share best practices and lessons from previous projects or competitors.
