Job description

  • Who we’re looking for: As we scale and evolve, we’re looking for an exceptional Senior People Partner to help us build the organisation we need for what comes next.
  • The challenge: This is intentionally a broad role with genuine ownership and exposure to some of Tillo’s most important organisational decisions.
  • Where you’ll work: This role will be based in our Hove office 2-3 days a week

The Tillo Difference

We’re in the business of rewards and incentives, so we know a thing or two about the importance of giving back. We can’t grow as a business without growing as individuals, so we are committed to providing a workplace where passionate, driven individuals can thrive. We value collaboration, trust, positivity, and a willingness to learn - only by working as a team will we reach our goals.

We’re the market leader in the UK and are active in a number of other markets including USA, Europe, Australia and India.

Tillo is entering an exciting new chapter. We’re an ambitious, international FinTech operating across the UK, Europe, US and South Africa, and as we continue to scale and evolve through acquisition, we’re looking for a brilliant People Partner to join our team.

Job Summary

Reporting directly to our Chief People Officer , this is a broad People role with real opportunity to make an impact. You’ll partner with managers across the business, lead on Employee Relations, performance and talent activity, and play an active role in organisational change and integration.

We’re not looking for someone who has seen absolutely everything before. We want someone with strong People foundations, great judgement and bags of curiosity & innovation. Someone confident enough to ask good questions, challenge thinking, make a recommendation and take accountability for what happens next.

If your instinct is to ask “why do we do it that way?” and then help find a better answer, you’ll probably enjoy it here.

What you’ll do
Partner, coach & challenge
  • Build trusted relationships with managers and help them build high-performing teams.
  • Coach and challenge managers through performance, feedback, team dynamics and people decisions.
  • Help managers become more confident and accountable for leading their own teams.
  • Use People data and insight to spot themes, challenge assumptions and recommend action.
  • Bring a commercial People perspective while keeping employee experience front of mind.
Lead Employee Relations
  • Take ownership of complex ER cases including performance, absence, disciplinary, grievance and sensitive employee matters.
  • Coach managers through difficult conversations and help them act confidently, fairly and at the right pace.
  • Apply strong working knowledge of UK employment law pragmatically.
  • Support restructures, consultations and complex exits, working with the CPO and external expertise where appropriate.
  • Use good judgement to understand risk, knowing when to make the call and when to bring in additional expertise.
Shape performance, talent & change
  • Lead our performance and talent cycles, helping managers turn conversations into meaningful action.
  • Support organisational design, workforce planning and team changes alongside leaders and the CPO.
  • Play an active role in our acquisition and integration work , particularly around manager support, change, communication and employee experience.
  • Spot capability or organisational challenges and bring ideas about how we could tackle them differently.
Connect People, Talent & Operations

You’ll work closely with our Head of Talent and People Operations Analyst , connecting the different parts of our People function.

  • Partner with Talent on workforce requirements, role design and capability gaps.
  • Challenge managers to think beyond replacing headcount and consider the capability and structure their team really needs.
  • Help shape how HiBob (our new HRIS), our policies and People processes work for managers and employees.
  • Identify where recurring People problems could be solved through better manager capability, technology or process.
  • Use People data and reporting to make better decisions.
About you

You’ll probably have broad People/HR experience and be ready for a role that gives you greater ownership, challenge and exposure.

We’d love you to bring:

  • Strong generalist People experience with good knowledge of UK/EU employment law.
  • Hands-on experience managing ER cases and confidence dealing with difficult people situations.
  • Experience coaching and advising managers.
  • Sound judgement and the confidence to form a view rather than simply explain the HR options.
  • Commercial curiosity and an interest in understanding how the business actually works.
  • The confidence to constructively challenge managers, senior leaders and your own People team.
  • An interest in organisational design, performance, talent and how businesses scale.
  • The ability to use data and insight to inform decisions.
  • Curiosity about new technology and better ways of working; experience with HiBob or Ravio would be a bonus.
  • International People experience would be useful, but you don’t need to be an expert in every jurisdiction.

Experience of M&A, integration or significant organisational change would be brilliant, but it isn’t essential. More important is your appetite to get involved, learn quickly and take ownership.

What matters to us

You don’t need to know everything.

What we care about is how you think when you don’t know the answer.

Are you curious enough to understand the real problem before jumping to a solution? Can you balance employee experience, commercial reality and risk? Are you confident enough to challenge someone more senior than you? And, once you’ve formed a view, are you willing to make a recommendation and own the outcome?

We value experience, particularly when the stakes are high. But we also value people who haven’t become constrained by how things have always been done.

We want someone with enough experience to understand the fundamentals and enough curiosity, creativity and confidence to question them.

Why Tillo?

You’ll join us at a point where there is loads to get involved in: international growth, acquisition and integration, new People technology, evolving organisational structures and the everyday challenge of helping a scaling business get better.

You’ll work directly with our CPO and alongside our Talent and People Operations teams, with plenty of exposure and opportunity to grow your own scope as Tillo grows.

If you’re looking for a People Partner role where you can learn, challenge, experiment and genuinely influence how we do things
