Job description

We are looking for a People Admin & Payroll Lead to oversee day‑to‑day operations and coordinate the work of two Administrators responsible for onboarding, employee lifecycle changes, and payroll preparation. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone ready to take the next step in their HR career. Previous team management experience is not essential if you are a senior HR Administrator or Payroll Coordinator looking for your first leadership role, we’d love to hear from you. You’ll work closely with our People Analytics & Operations Manager to embed strong processes, maintain compliance, and drive continuous improvement.

Responsibilities
  • Provide day‑to‑day oversight, guidance and support to People Operations Administrators.
  • Coordinate onboarding for new joiners, ensuring an efficient and positive experience.
  • Manage employee lifecycle changes (such as contract changes, leavers, and updates) accurately and on time.
  • Take responsibility for monthly payroll preparation and verifying information returned from our outsourced managed payroll provider.
  • Act as the first point of escalation for queries, supporting the team to prioritise effectively.
  • Monitor and manage the People Operations inbox/ticketing system, ensuring queries are allocated, tracked, and completed promptly.
  • Support internal audits by maintaining adherence to GDPR regulations and company People policies, while proactively identifying opportunities for process improvement.
  • Foster a team culture focused on accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Work closely with the People Analytics & Operations Manager to strengthen HR systems and ways of working.
Qualifications
  • Operational experience in HR or People Operations with a solid understanding of onboarding, employee lifecycle and HR administration.
  • Highly organised and detail‑focused, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Confident using HRIS systems (HiBob or similar is an advantage).
  • Knowledge of GDPR and handling confidential employee information.
  • Proactive, solutions‑focused, and motivated by improving processes and service quality.
  • Strong organisation skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience in monthly payroll process management is desirable (training will be provided where needed).
  • Proven ability to coordinate and mentor team members, providing clear guidance and upholding high service standards. Formal line management experience is advantageous but not essential.
Employment Details

Location: Hybrid South of England (1 day a week in the office).

Salary: £38,000–£42,000 per year (depending on experience).
