Job Overview

ING is a flexible, family‑friendly organisation operating a hybrid working model. HR employees are required to be office based twice per week. We are seeking an experienced and knowledgeable Pensions Manager to lead the governance, administration, and strategic development of our UK pension arrangements, covering both Defined Benefit (DB) and Defined Contribution (DC) pension schemes. This role is critical in ensuring our pension offerings remain compliant, competitive, and aligned with our broader reward strategy in a highly regulated financial services environment.

Candidate Profile
  • Proven experience managing DB and DC pension schemes
  • Strong working knowledge of UK pensions legislation, regulatory frameworks, and governance best practices
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, with experience engaging with trustees, regulators, and senior executives
  • Analytical mindset with strong attention to detail and risk awareness
  • Experience with pension systems and platforms is desirable
Main Duties and Responsibilities of Role
Scheme Governance & Oversight
  • Manage the day‑to‑day operations of DB and DC pension schemes, ensuring compliance with UK pensions legislation.
  • Act as secretary to the pension trustee board, preparing agendas, papers, and minutes.
  • Administrator service level monitoring, service delivery, issues, complaints and day‑to‑day queries.
  • Assistance with Governance and Investment Committee actions, Trustee actions and ensuring effective decision‑making and risk management.
Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management
  • Monitor and interpret regulatory developments and assess implications for pension schemes.
  • Ensure timely and accurate statutory reporting, disclosures, board effectiveness and scheme returns in conjunction with the pension administrators and advisors.
  • Support internal and external audits, and manage relationships with legal, actuarial, and investment advisers.
  • Maintain risk register and monitor progress with actions / Trustee objectives.
Member Engagement & Communications
  • Oversee member communications, including annual benefit statements, scheme literature, and retirement packs.
  • Provide expert guidance to employees on pension queries, retirement planning, and scheme transitions.
  • Champion financial wellbeing initiatives linked to pensions and long‑term savings.
Strategic Projects & Change Management
  • Lead pension‑related projects such as scheme closures, de‑risking exercises, provider transitions, and auto‑enrolment reviews.
  • Collaborate with Reward, Payroll, and Finance teams to ensure pensions are integrated into broader HR and financial strategies.
Data Management & Reporting
  • Maintain accurate pension data and records in line with GDPR and internal controls.
  • Prepare reports for senior leadership, trustees, and regulators.
  • Support actuarial valuations, funding updates, and investment performance reviews.
