The UKCRC-registered Peninsula Clinical Trials Unit (PenCTU) at the University of Plymouth provides multi-disciplinary academic support to researchers and clinicians for the design and conduct of high quality clinical trials and other well designed research studies. With a growing portfolio of studies, funded by the NIHR and other major non-commercial research funding bodies, we currently have an exciting opportunity to get involved with clinical trials

About the role

We now have a vacancy for a Trial Manager and an Assistant Trial Manager, to join the successful trial management team within the PenCTU. This is an exciting opportunity to join a CTU that has retained full registration status from the UK Clinical Research Collaboration (UKCRC) since 2007. PenCTU has a growing portfolio of studies funded by the NIHR and other major non-commercial research funding bodies.

We are looking for a suitably experienced person, with energy and enthusiasm to grasp new opportunities and help shape the future of the PenCTU within a committed team. You will work closely with a team of trial managers, data managers, programmers, statisticians, other methodologists and clinicians to develop and manage a portfolio of clinical studies on behalf of investigators across the South-West peninsula and further afield.

Appointment grade will be dependent on skills and experience. You must have a good understanding of all stages in the life cycle of clinical trials. Applicants applying for the Grade 7 Trial Manager role should have substantial experience in the central management of randomised controlled trials. Experience of managing trials of investigational medicinal products and/or trials of complex interventions particularly beneficial.

Knowledge of NHS research governance and the regulatory requirements governing the conduct of clinical trials in the UK is essential, along with a good understanding of NHS research infrastructure and funding.

What we’re looking for

You should have educational attainment at further education level in a relevant discipline or comparable level qualification in a clinical or related discipline, or demonstrable equivalent experience. You will write fluently, have excellent oral communication skills, be highly organised, demonstrate meticulous attention to detail and be able to prioritise their workload. Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint is essential.

The PenCTU is based within the Faculty of Health at the University of Plymouth. The post is based at the University of Plymouth's North Campus at the Plymouth Science Park, Derriford, Plymouth.
