We are seeking a dedicated PE Teaching Assistant to join this school full-time and support the physical education and wellbeing of their students in a specialist alternative provision setting.
About the Role
As a PE Teaching Assistant, you will
- Support the PE teacher in planning and delivering practical physical education, sports and fitness sessions for students (ages 14-16).
- Encourage and support students' personal development - helping to build confidence, resilience, teamwork, discipline, and positive attitudes through sport and physical activity.
- Help maintain a safe, structured, supportive and respectful environment that aligns with the schools expectations of conduct, responsibility and self-regulation.
- Provide both vocational/physical support and pastoral/mentoring support for students who may have struggled in mainstream education or who have social, emotional or behavioural needs.
- Work collaboratively with other staff to embed routines, consistency and positive relationships - supporting our commitment to a caring, stable environment.
What We Offer
- Full-time, Monday to Friday, during school hours (08:30-15:15; Fridays 08:30-14:15).
- A chance to work in an innovative, vocationally-focused alternative provision where enterprise, real-world skills and personal development go hand in hand.
- An opportunity to make a real difference for young people who may have struggled in mainstream school - supporting them to build life-skills, confidence and resilience and preparing them for post-16 pathways and the world of work.
- A supportive, collaborative team committed to high standards of conduct and care for all students.
Person Specification / What We Are Looking For
We welcome applications from individuals who are:
- Passionate about sport, fitness, physical education and working with young people - a genuine enthusiasm for PE is essential.
- Energetic, outgoing, confident, and resilient - able to lead by example and stay calm and positive even when working with students who have challenging behaviour or complex needs.
- Motivated to support young people who benefit from alternative provision, including those with social, emotional or behavioural difficulties.
- Empathetic, patient, and able to build meaningful relationships, offering both practical guidance and pastoral support.
- Flexible and adaptable, ready to contribute to a dynamic environment where routines, structure, consistency and positive role-modelling matter.
Please note: Previous experience working in a school or with young people is not essential - what matters most is your dedication, passion for PE, and commitment to helping students succeed.
