The Personal Care European Business Unit (PC6) is a strategic priority for Unilever, having a transformational role in delivering top and bottom-line growth. PC6 is responsible for UK&I, Germany, France, Italy, Netherlands (& Belgium) and Poland, covering the DEOs, Skin Cleansing and Oral Care categories.

This exciting new role will lead our PC6 CTI/Claims & Customer Development R&D programmes for DEOs, Skin Cleansing and Oral Care, identifying new consumer insights, crafting SUPERIOR claims and Customer engagement strategies.

The role will lead the CTI/Claims functional excellence strategy, consolidating best practices and pioneering new consumer insights and claims approaches. It will shape and deliver our Maximising Product Impact (MPI) capability programme, to co‑create assets for Customers (inc. trade stories), Influencers, Professionals and Academics.

The role requires the ability to think strategically, to connect business strategy and consumer insights, and turn these into SUPERIOR products to deliver with excellence into the PC6 markets. This will involve partnering closely with the Global and PC6 Category CTI/Claims teams, as well as with Marketing and Customer Development leadership teams. The primary focus of this role will be on driving strategic initiatives, enhancing capabilities and achieving functional excellence, and less so on day‑to‑day support for category innovation projects.

Main Accountabilities

The PC6 CTI/Claims & CDR&D Leader role will:

  1. Lead the PC6 CTI/Claims function across DEOs, Skin Cleansing and Oral Care, building functional excellence to deliver against our Personal Care strategy.
  2. Develop and implement agile PC6 Claims capabilities and work practices to drive more efficient and effective innovation support and insight generation, using the best practises in data and digital tools, in partnership with the Category and Market R&D teams.
  3. Re‑define and deliver the PC6 Customer Development R&D strategy to help build Customer partnerships, supporting Customer engagements (together with Market R&D), trade stories and project activations. Build strong partnerships with the Customer Development leadership team.
  4. Define and deliver the PC6 Maximising Product Impact (MPI) programme, co‑creating SUPERIOR assets for Customers, Channels, Influencers, Professionals and Academics etc, driving both internal and external endorsements.
  5. Lead the PC6 superiority agenda, advising on tests and partnering with Category teams to translate local insights into SUPERIOR products, opportunities for new claims and activations with consumers and customers and in future project briefs.
  6. Build and land a competitor monitoring capability with Market R&D and Category teams.
  7. Maintain and evolve an external ecosystem of research agencies ensuring the CTI/Claims community is utilizing the most cutting‑edge and innovative research techniques & embracing new tools and methodologies.
All ABOUT YOU
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in a Physical or Social Science field (e.g. Chemistry, Physics, Biology and Psychology).
  • Proven experience as a Senior Manager in CTI/Claims of leading Consumer insight and claims & communication programmes, developing teams and building new capabilities.
  • An analytical AND creative thinker – able to frame and translate strategies into consumer and claims & communication programmes.
  • Experienced at defining and executing strategic R&D programmes, with the ability to clearly articulate the vision and make it a reality via clear workplans to be delivered through others.
  • Excellent communicator/influencer with proven track record of successful stakeholder management.
  • Extensive experience of Consumer research and claims methodologies and measurements.
  • Experience of working with external partners, such as; consumer/claims and design agencies, Customers, Academia, Influencers and Professionals, among others.
  • Experience of the legal/regulatory and compliance requirements in Europe.
  • Experience of working globally in multi‑disciplinary teams, with strong cross‑functional leadership skills and ability to inspire and deliver positive outcomes.
