West Midlands Police invites applications for Sergeant Promotion from internal and external substantive Constables, with potential transfers for external Sergeants. Successful candidates will be prepared to assume any function across the West Midlands Force area and must meet SLT approval, complete the Sergeants exam or OSPRE, and pass vetting.
Timelines include an Operational Briefing window and October interview rounds.
Applications are invited from internal and external substantive Police Constables on promotion, as well as transfer opportunities for external substantive Sergeants. Applicants must be suitably experienced, competent and credible for immediate promotion to rank of Sergeant in the West Midlands Police.

The Selection process will consist of the following stages:
We ask that all candidates provide any dates they can not attend an Operational briefing between the 14th September and 23rd September - Please do not send through availability relating to interview. A member of the Promotions team will check your interview availability on the day of your Operational Briefing
When sharing your availability, please only list dates you definitively cannot attend. Accommodating schedules for a large volume of candidates is highly challenging. As a result, we can only prioritise those with unavoidable conflicts.

For those that are successful you will be required to complete a 12 month work-based assessment (WBA) which is a requirement under the NPPF for you to become substantively promoted.
Online induction sessions for WBA will take place in November/early December and you will be required to attend one of these sessions.

Successful applicants will be required to pass Recruitment Vetting and Counter Terrorism Clearancescrutiny prior to commencing their role, this will include a full background & financial disclosure as part of the vetting process.
Appointment to this role will be dependent upon successfully medical checks, which may include a drugs test and if required a fitness test.
