Job summary

Syntech Recruitment Ltd is seeking a Payroll Specialist to take full ownership of the monthly payroll for around 150 employees in a flexible, part-time on-site role in Woking. This standalone position offers autonomy and close collaboration with Finance and HR to ensure accurate and compliant payroll processing.

You will manage end-to-end payroll processing for 150 staff, handle journals, reconciliations and reporting, and oversee pensions and employee benefits.

Qualifications

• End-to-end payroll experience across monthly cycles.
• Experience preparing payroll journals and reconciliations.
• Strong payroll accounting knowledge and double-entry bookkeeping.
• Excellent Excel skills and attention to detail.
• Experience with pensions/employee benefits is a plus.
• Ability to work independently and manage workload.

Hours: 24 hours per week (flexible working pattern, on-site) Type: Permanent, Part-Time

We're looking for a Payroll Specialist to take full ownership of an established payroll function for around 150 employees, as it transitions from HR back into Finance. This is a standalone role offering genuine autonomy, working closely with both Finance and HR to ensure payroll is delivered accurately, compliantly and on time. If you enjoy reconciliations, payroll accounting and working in a varied SME environment where no two months are quite the same, this could be an excellent opportunity.

Payroll Specialist role

This is a hands-on, standalone payroll position where you'll manage the complete monthly payroll cycle while supporting Finance with payroll journals, reconciliations and reporting. You'll be responsible for:

• Processing end-to-end monthly payroll for approximately 150 employees
• Managing starters, leavers, salary changes, overtime and statutory payments
• Preparing and balancing payroll journals
• Completing salary and gross-to-net reconciliations
• Administering pensions and employee benefits
• Managing payroll-related time and attendance data
• Supporting payroll integration for newly acquired businesses
• Liaising closely with HR, Finance and line managers
• Maintaining payroll records and ensuring legislative compliance

Payroll Specialist Profile

• Proven end-to-end payroll experience
• Experience preparing payroll journals and reconciliations
• Strong understanding of payroll accounting and double-entry bookkeeping
• Excellent Excel skills
• Experience working with payroll-linked benefits such as pensions and healthcare
• Strong attention to detail and analytical skills
• Experience using payroll software (ADP would be advantageous but isn't essential)
• The ability to work independently and confidently manage your own workload

This role will particularly suit someone who enjoys taking ownership, solving payroll queries and working in a business where Finance and HR work closely together.
