Overview
One of the North's leading firms of chartered accountants and business advisors employing c.1,000 staff across several offices is looking to recruit a Payroll Manager/Supervisor to its Newcastle office to deliver high quality and timely payroll services to a portfolio of clients ranging in size and complexity. You will be part of a team managing a portfolio of new and existing clients, with responsibility for the delivery and implementation of payroll services to a high standard, with high levels of accuracy and attention to detail.
Responsibilities
- End‑to‑end payroll process delivery for a portfolio of clients, ensuring that the payrolls are processed and submitted each pay period in a timely and accurate manner.
- Advising on any technical payroll matters arising, such as termination payments, payrolling of benefits and statutory payments.
- Dealing with client and team queries in relation to payroll operations, including handling escalations.
- Managing team workloads and allocations, providing counselling including annual and in‑year reviews.
- Preparing client fee and budget details.
- Approving BACS files for the payment of employees.
- Ensuring Auto‑Enrolment compliance.
- Setting up and attending client meetings when required.
- Developing additional services for payroll clients.
- Ensuring the smooth transition/implementation of new payroll clients – effective procedures for the setup of internal and external systems, tools and processes.
- HMRC audit assistance and ensuring compliance with internal quality and risk requirements.
Qualifications
- Strong, end‑to‑end experience as Payroll Manager, Payroll Delivery Manager, Payroll Supervisor, Payroll Controller, Senior Payroll Officer or similar – ideally gained in a UK bureau environment or handling larger/more complex payrolls.
- Payroll qualifications such as Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals (CIPP) are advantageous.
- Expertise in understanding payroll compliance, rules and legislations in a multi‑country environment, including AE, RTI, Apprenticeship Levy, Statutory payments/deductions, Pension contributions and so on.
- Understanding of related processes that impact Payroll.
- Strong workload, project, time and stakeholder management skills.
- Good IT skills including experience of working with Excel documents.
- An assertive, proactive, flexible, service‑driven, innovative and cooperative approach to delivery with a desire to take on responsibility.
