Job summary

Overview

Payroll Executive — Salary: Up to £38,000 (up to £44,000 for more senior candidates). Location: Reading (Hybrid: 3 days office / 2 days home; initially 4 office days). Type: Full-time | Permanent.

About the Role

This opportunity is ideal for an experienced Payroll Executive with at least 3 years' experience in a professional practice environment. You will manage a portfolio of clients, delivering end-to-end payroll processing including starters, leavers, personal changes, holiday pay, and statutory payments. You will be part of a supportive payroll team and work closely with clients to ensure accuracy, compliance, and excellent service.

Key Responsibilities
  • End-to-end payroll processing for weekly and monthly payrolls
  • Ensure compliance with RTI, Auto Enrolment, and year-end procedures
  • Handle multiple or complex payrolls across a client portfolio
  • Reconcile payroll and perform statutory calculations
  • Provide exceptional client support via email and telephone
  • Identify process improvements and maintain payroll accuracy
  • Work collaboratively within the payroll team to meet deadlines
Ideal Candidate
  • Minimum 3 years' payroll experience within a professional practice/accountancy environment
  • Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation, RTI, Auto Enrolment, and statutory compliance
  • Confident with complex payroll calculations and payslip interpretation
  • Excellent client service and communication skills
  • Proactive, hands-on, and detail-oriented
  • Experience with IRIS Payroll Professional is a plus
  • Relevant payroll qualification (CIPP) desirable but not essential
