Job summary

Emmerson-ross Recruitment is seeking an experienced Payroll Administrator / Bookkeeper to join our client’s team in Torquay. This varied role splits roughly 50/50 between payroll and bookkeeping and VAT preparation, serving a wide range of clients with a busy payroll workload.

We offer a permanent, full-time position with a 9:00am–5:00pm schedule, Monday to Friday, and a 3-day payroll-only option. Part-time payroll specialist arrangements are also considered to suit flexible needs.

Qualifications

• At least 2 years' recent experience processing a high volume of payroll transactions.
• Solid understanding of PAYE, SSP, SMP, National Insurance and pensions.
• Excellent communication skills and client-facing confidence.
• Accurate data-entry with strong attention to detail and deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Process and file payroll for around 100 clients across multiple cycles.
• Manage weekly, fortnightly, four-weekly and monthly payrolls and respond to client queries.
• Assist with bookkeeping and VAT returns, using Sage 50, QuickBooks, Xero and Excel.
• Provide client and office support and liaise with HMRC as needed.
