Join Great Western Railway – Driving Change for Our People and Passengers.

At GWR, we’re more than a rail operator – we’re proud custodians of one of the UK’s most iconic networks.

We’re on an ambitious journey of transformation. Through innovative systems and streamlined processes, we’re creating a better experience for every colleague. In this role, you’ll be at the heart of that evolution, shaping solutions that empower our workforce and drive continuous improvement.

About The Role

As GWR implements its new HR and payroll system, PeopleXD, you will be instrumental in driving the successful adoption across GWR’s 7,000+ colleagues. Your role will be to develop a training strategy, create learning materials for multiple delivery formats, facilitate training sessions that build user confidence and capability, and provide post‑implementation support.

In this role you will work collaboratively with project teams and stakeholders to minimise capability gaps, drive adoption, and ensure GWR colleagues are fully prepared to embrace the new HR and payroll processes.

Your main responsibilities include:
Training Strategy
  • Conducting training needs analysis and identifying audience needs.
  • Developing training roadmap and schedules.
  • Creating an evaluation framework.
Course Design & Materials
  • Design new courses with stakeholder input which can be delivered both face‑to‑face and online.
  • Pilot all new and substantially updated courses to gain feedback and sign‑off, working within our branding guidelines and L&D standards to ensure resources are engaging and appropriate.
  • Minimise risk of capability gaps to help ensure business readiness ahead of go‑live and create materials to consolidate learning, such as videos and quick reference guides.
Course Delivery
  • Deliver courses and identify evidence of delegate learning, in line with company and L&D best practice.
  • Engage colleagues through supportive and tailored learning experiences, through both online and classroom delivery as appropriate, adapting training to suit audiences.
  • Deliver train‑the‑trainer sessions to speed up delivery to wider audiences.
  • Troubleshoot basic user issues and escalation of any observed technical problems.
Course Evaluation
  • Capture and review all feedback on courses delivered to enhance future delivery.
  • Ensure work completed is cost and time efficient, sharing ideas for improvement.
Administration/Housekeeping
  • Complete all paperwork for courses, effectively use company resource planning tools to manage training delivery and ensure all training venues are safe and conducive for learning.
Post Implementation Support
  • Consider options to provide post go‑live support, such as drop‑in sessions and FAQ resources.
About You

To be successful for this role, you will have the following:

Knowledge
  • HR & Payroll process knowledge.
  • Understanding of data privacy/GDPR as it relates to HR systems.
  • Clear understanding and application of the learning cycle and other learning and development principles.
Skills
  • Training course delivery and design.
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to various training environments, people and situations.
  • Time management skills to meet tight project deadlines.
  • Adept at working with stakeholders, with good presentation and communication skills.
  • IT literate (inc. software).
  • Be forward‑thinking, seeking ways to improve and keep pace with system updates and problem solving.
  • Flexible to adapt to organisational training needs.
  • Analytical thinking to understand system workflows and end user experience.
Experience
  • Identifying and meeting learning needs.
  • Knowledge of People XD.
  • Training and coaching, being a role model to delegates and others.
  • Designing courses and supporting materials for online and classroom delivery.
Qualifications
  • Level 3 Award in education and training (PTLLS) or equivalent is desirable but not essential.
