Job summary

A leading fashion retailer in Greater London is looking for an apprentice to support payroll operations. This role includes validating timesheets, maintaining employee records, and handling payroll queries. Job description
Responsibilities
  • Collate and validate timesheets and absence / pay change data.
  • Process new starters, leavers and maintain accurate employee records across multiple systems.
  • Perform manual payroll calculations and gain exposure to pensions administration.
  • Respond to basic employee payroll queries and assist with compliance checks.
  • Cover for the People & Culture Administrator.
  • Resolve payroll customer queries (employees, clients, management) and document responses.
  • Deal with complaints, follow processes and escalation procedures.
  • Meet client or customer needs in line with service level agreements.
  • Provide customer service using agreed systems and processes, taking ownership for work and applying agreed checks.
  • Adhere to deadlines and process schedules, reprioritise tasks when conflicting demands arise.
  • Select appropriate communication media, recognising advantages and risks for each stakeholder.
  • Escalate deadline‑related concerns promptly and suggest solutions.
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with stakeholders and support team colleagues.
  • Use computerised payroll software and spreadsheets (e.g. MS Excel).
  • Use systems and processes to support the payroll function, including Real Time Information submissions to HMRC.
  • Gather, analyse and process payroll data.
Training Schedule

A 100 % tailored training and assessment programme will support you throughout your 21‑month apprenticeship, including endpoint assessment. Topics covered include Payroll Level 3 qualification, Business and Customer Awareness, Payroll Core, Pensions, Technical Payroll, Regulations and Compliance, Systems and Processes, Planning and Prioritisation, Analysis skills, Using Systems and Processes, and Producing Quality and Accurate Information and Reports.

You may need to complete Level 2 Maths and English Functional Skills if you cannot evidence prior grades. GCSE Maths and English (grade 4/C and above) are required. Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience.

Compensation

Wage £23,809 per year. Check minimum wage rates.

Apprentice will be eligible for standard employee benefits, including the above benefit package.
