Lead Project Manager - Payments Innovation Programme

£600p/d (Inside IR35)
Hybrid - 1-2 days per week - On-site London

We are seeking an experienced Lead Project Manager to join a major public-sector organisation's Payments Innovation & Fintech Directorate. You will operate within a central operations function, supporting governance, planning and delivery across a high-profile programme with significant public-policy impact.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead integrated planning activities for the 2026 delivery cycle and maintain existing delivery priorities.
  • Project-manage one or more multi-disciplinary workstreams, producing detailed plans with clear dependencies.
  • Monitor overall programme progress, escalate and drive corrective action, and manage RAID items.
  • Coordinate programme reporting and ensure adherence to governance, quality assurance and change-control processes.
  • Collaborate closely with senior managers, PMs and task owners to ensure alignment across directorates.
  • Coach colleagues on project ways of working and support continuous improvement.
Essential Experience
  • Proven end-to-end project management within complex, multi-dependency programmes.
  • Strong stakeholder management and the ability to influence senior decision-makers.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage competing deadlines.
  • Leadership capability with sound judgement and adaptable delivery approaches.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative working skills.
  • Recognised project/programme management qualification (PRINCE2, MSP, APMP, PMP).
  • Experience across both public and private sector environments.
Desirable
  • Payments experience (retail or wholesale).
  • Experience working in regulated or mission-critical financial environments.
