Job summary

Filtronic plc is seeking a Payload Product Assurance Engineer to embed robust quality across payload programmes from concept to customer delivery. You will lead QA activities, ensure ECSS/ESA/NASA compliance, and work with engineering, manufacturing and test teams to uphold quality throughout the lifecycle.

You'll assess space-grade components, review documentation, drive RCAs, and participate in design and gate reviews while maintaining traceability and configuration control.

Qualifications

  • Degree (or equivalent) in Engineering, Manufacturing, Physics, Quality or related discipline.
  • Experience in Product Assurance, Quality Assurance, Manufacturing Quality or Reliability Engineering.
  • Experience with space/electronic products in regulated environments.

Responsibilities

  • Leading product assurance activities across payload and space hardware programmes.
  • Ensuring compliance with ECSS, ESA and NASA requirements.
  • Collaborating with engineering, manufacturing and test teams to embed quality.
  • Supporting selection and qualification of space-grade components/materials.
  • Reviewing quality plans, manufacturing docs, NCRs and release documents.
  • Leading root cause investigations and NRBs.
  • Participating in design, manufacturing readiness and programme reviews.
  • Monitoring quality metrics and continuous improvement activities.
  • Maintaining configuration control and traceability.
  • Supporting supplier quality and material/process compliance.

What you'll be doing

As our Payload Product Assurance Engineer, you'll be responsible for ensuring robust product assurance activities are embedded across payload programmes from concept through to customer delivery. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading product assurance activities across payload and space hardware programmes.
  • Ensuring compliance with customer, regulatory and industry standards, including ECSS, ESA and NASA requirements.
  • Working closely with engineering, manufacturing and test teams to embed quality throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Supporting the selection and qualification of space‑grade electronic components and materials.
  • Reviewing and approving quality plans, manufacturing documentation, non‑conformance reports and release documentation.
  • Leading root cause investigations, corrective actions and Non‑Conformance Review Boards (NRBs).
  • Participating in design reviews, manufacturing readiness reviews, customer reviews and programme gate reviews.
  • Monitoring quality metrics, process capability and continuous improvement activities.
  • Maintaining robust configuration control, traceability and documentation.
  • Supporting supplier quality and material/process compliance activities.
What we're looking for

You'll be an experienced engineer or quality professional who enjoys working within highly regulated, technically demanding environments. We're particularly interested in candidates with a degree (or equivalent experience) in Engineering, Manufacturing, Physics, Quality or a related discipline, experience in Product Assurance, Quality Assurance, Manufacturing Quality or Reliability Engineering, and experience working with complex electronic, RF, aerospace, defence or space products.

  • A strong understanding of quality management systems, non‑conformance management and root cause analysis.
  • Knowledge of space‑grade electronic components, PCB manufacturing and aerospace soldering standards.
  • Familiarity with ECSS, ESA or NASA quality standards.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience supporting satellite, payload or wider space programmes.
  • Knowledge of AS9100 and ISO 9001 quality systems.
  • Experience with configuration management, FMEA, risk management, qualification or acceptance testing.
  • Experience supporting supplier or customer audits.
