Pause Practitioner (Pause Programme)

Location: Hackney Council

Contract Type: Interim (Maternity Cover)

Hours: Full-time, 36 hours per week

Start Date: ASAP

Pay: 270 p/d Umbrella

We are seeking a passionate and dynamic Pause Practitioner to join our central Public Health team in Hackney. This is a unique opportunity to deliver intensive, relationship-based support to women with complex needs, helping to create meaningful change and reduce the number of children entering care.

Working within the nationally recognised Pause Programme, you’ll provide a bespoke package of health, therapeutic, and social support. You’ll be part of a committed team using creativity, tenacity, and systemic approaches to engage women and support them in achieving their goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver the Pause Framework with fidelity and integrity.
  • Use intensive outreach to engage women in the programme.
  • Collaborate with key agencies to develop effective local pathways.
  • Co-produce assessments and support plans based on women’s strengths and needs.
  • Design and implement creative, goal-aligned interventions.
  • Maintain high-quality data and records using the Pause Monitoring & Evaluation Framework.
  • Uphold safeguarding responsibilities and professional boundaries.
  • Represent Pause at relevant events and contribute to reflective practice.
Additional Duties
  • Promote and safeguard the welfare of children and vulnerable adults.
  • Stay up to date with relevant legislation and practice standards.
  • Work flexibly, including occasional out-of-hours support and travel.
  • Ensure compliance with data protection, confidentiality, and health & safety policies.
  • Participate in national Pause training and learning events.

You'll bring a strong foundation in social work, health, or therapeutic practice, with the ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities. You’ll be confident working independently and collaboratively, and committed to continuous learning and professional development.

  • Ability to work systemically and creatively.
  • Excellent communication and record-keeping skills.
Desirable
  • Previous experience with the Pause Programme or similar models.
  • Familiarity with multi-agency working and trauma-informed approaches.
