Job summary

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is offering a Porter role based at Southampton General Hospital. The position is permanent and involves patient transfers, handling specimens and other items with a professional, compassionate approach.

Shifts include Days, Nights, Early and Twilight across seven days a week. The successful candidate will work as part of the Portering team, ensuring safe transport and support for patients and staff throughout the Trust.

Qualifications

• Good literacy and numeracy required.
• Good standard of computer skills.
• NVQ relating to Customer Care/Public Services desirable.
• Previous experience of dealing with the public/other agencies is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Be an integral member of the Portering team and undertake portering duties within the Trust.
• Attend the Helipad to help the Major trauma team retrieve and transfer patients to the Emergency Department or other location within the Trust.
• Removal of deceased patients from wards and departments to the mortuary or holding room, passing over the patient’s case notes as required.
• Transport laboratory specimens and blood products between hospital wards and departments
