Job summary

Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is seeking 5 cleaners for a 15-hour contract, Monday to Friday, 5:00pm–8:00pm. You will deliver high-quality cleaning across wards and communal areas, with training on NHS standards, infection prevention and safety.

DBS checks and adherence to policies are required. Derbyshire Support and Facilities Services Limited supports the hospital and emphasizes vaccination, sponsorship constraints and flexible working discussions with DSFS HR.

Qualifications

  • To be able to read and understand to the required standard.
  • Basic education to include Maths and English.
  • Basic knowledge of Health and Safety and COSHH regulations.
  • Understanding the importance of confidentiality.
  • Experience of working in a hospital environment.
  • Previous experience in a similar environment.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver a high-quality cleaning service across wards, departments and communal areas.
  • Clean designated areas in line with NHS standards and frequencies.
  • Work in line with daily schedules as directed by supervisor or line manager.
  • Safely operate cleaning equipment and store after use.
  • Support infection prevention and control through established protocols.
  • Handle cleaning cupboards and keys securely and responsibly.
  • Complete mandatory training and comply with policies and safety regs.
  • Report accidents, incidents, hazards and near misses promptly.
  • Treat patients, visitors and colleagues with dignity and respect.

The Domestic Services Department plays a crucial role in supporting patient care by providing a high-quality cleaning service across wards, clinical departments, and communal areas throughout the Trust. The team is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, hygienic, and welcoming environment for patients, visitors, and staff, ensuring the highest standards of cleanliness are consistently achieved.

This position offers an opportunity to contribute to the delivery of excellent healthcare services by supporting infection prevention and enhancing the patient experience.

We have 5 vacancies available, for a 15 hour contract, working:

Monday to Friday

5:00pm to 8:00pm

Bank Holiday working is required

Main duties of the job
  • Deliver a high-quality cleaning service across wards, departments, and communal areas, maintaining high standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and safety.
  • Clean designated areas in accordance with approved cleaning methods, NHS National Cleaning Standards, and agreed cleaning frequencies.
  • Work in line with daily schedules as directed by the Domestic Services Supervisor or Line Manager.
  • Safely operate mechanical and electrical cleaning equipment following appropriate training and ensure equipment is cleaned and stored correctly after use.
  • Support infection prevention and control by adhering to the National Colour Coding System and relevant cleaning protocols.
  • Ensure cleaning cupboards are kept secure and maintain responsibility for issued keys.
  • Comply with mandatory training requirements and all policies, procedures, and health and safety regulations.
  • Report accidents, incidents, hazards, near misses, and unsafe conditions promptly.
  • Treat patients, visitors, and colleagues with dignity, respect, and professionalism at all times.
  • Undertake specialist and enhanced cleaning tasks, including the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) where required.
  • Respond to cleaning audit findings and complete required actions within agreed timescales.
  • Undertake any other duties appropriate to the grade and responsibilities of the role as requested by line management.
