Job Summary

BPAS is an independent healthcare charity that has been advocating & caring for women & couples for over 55 years, supporting over 100,000 women annually across more than 50 healthcare clinics nationwide.

We are currently looking for a Patient Safety & Risk Lead to join the Senior Operational Team.

As the Patient Safety & Risk Lead, you will play a pivotal role in advancing our patient safety agenda. You will lead the delivery of a robust patient safety & risk function, ensuring that BPAS continues to meet & exceed national & regulatory standards.

Main Duties of the Job
  • Deliver clinically informed analyses of patient safety issues
  • Oversee the line management of the Clinical Quality and Risk team
  • Contribute clinical and analytical expertise to all aspects of patient safety and risk intelligence, including developing the skills of colleagues
  • Work with colleagues across BPAS to ensure intelligence and information on the safety of services and any emerging patient safety issues are used as the basis for wider patient safety improvement initiatives, advice and guidance
  • Lead the identification, development, implementation and management of the organisations risk strategies and policies
  • Ensure compliance with national, regional, and local policy requirements and adherence to reporting deadlines
  • Produce and present assurance reports to relevant Board sub-committees, summarising issues, analysing trends, and interpreting data
About You

We're looking for a registered health professional registered with the NMC or HCPC, with extensive experience in patient safety, clinical governance, and incident management. You'll have strong leadership skills, demonstrated through managing teams & delivering complex safety & risk strategies.

You’ll also need:

  • Experience in conducting incident investigations, including Root Cause Analysis
  • A deep understanding of national safety standards
  • Excellent communication skills, enabling you to influence and guide senior leaders
  • Ability to embed learning from incidents into practice

Skills and Experience – Essential
  • Extensive management experience and supervision of staff, and experience of working at senior management level
  • Wide-range clinical insight into frontline processes of womens health, reproductive health, extending beyond single specialties or departments
  • Significant specialist knowledge within the past years of patient safety, incident management, Root Cause Analysis, Risk Management, NPSA, CQC
  • Knowledge of the requirement of the LePSE reporting systems is essential in reporting to Committees of the Board, & Commissioners
  • Knowledge of the Patient Safety Incident reporting framework including AAR, SWARMs.
Desirable
  • Proven experience of writing comprehensive accurate reports for Board and Senior Level Committees
  • Knowledge of Human factors methodology and its application in clinical practice
Qualifications – Essential
  • Registered Healthcare Professional with current NMC/HCPC registration – please state PIN
  • Educated to post graduate degree level or equivalent
  • Evidence of continuing professional development

Job Details

Salary: £56,100 – £63,240 per annum depending on skills and experience

Contract: Permanent

Working Pattern: Full-time, Home or remote working; 36 hours per week (Monday to Thursday 09:00‑17:00 & Friday 09:00‑15:30)

Location: Hybrid – home working with travel required to Head Office in Leamington Spa and other BPAS units as required. Office address: Orion House, Athena Drive, Warwick, CV34 6RQ.

On Call

All members of the Senior Operating Team will be required to participate in an on‑call rota. You may need to respond up to 9 pm Monday to Friday and on Saturdays and Sundays approximately four times per year.
