Job Summary

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Patient Flow Clinical Manager to join our newly unified One Patient Flow Team. This pivotal role will support safe, timely, and person‑centred transitions of care across the Trust, including Secure and Acute Divisions, Portsmouth, and the Isle of Wight for mental health. As a Band 7 Clinical Manager, you will lead and coordinate daily patient flow operations, supervise clinical staff, and work closely with multidisciplinary teams to reduce delays and improve discharge planning. You will play a key role in embedding our new 7‑day service model (8 am‑8 pm) and contribute to shaping a consistent, Trust‑wide approach to patient flow.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide clinical and managerial leadership to the day‑to‑day operation of the Patient Flow team.
  • Champion a culture based on the Trust's values, acting as a role model to the rest of the team.
  • Support an innovative, progressive attitude to the continual improvement of the patient flow service.
  • Provide senior support to wards and medical teams with regard to patient flow.
  • Coordinate the Trust's Mental Health bed allocations and act as the single point of contact for any mental health referral.
  • Monitor the quality and safety of gatekeeping.
  • Operate across multiple sites: Melbury Lodge, Winchester; Antelope House, Southampton; Elmleigh, Havant; Parklands, Basingstoke.

Eligibility & Experience
  • Qualifications – Essential: Relevant professional qualification (Mental Health Nurse or OT) with appropriate registration with NMC or HCPC; Management or leadership qualification and/or training.
  • Qualifications – Desirable: Evidence of other development or training indicating a commitment to continuous improvement and preparation for management.
  • Experience – Essential: Able to manage, supervise, and direct a multi‑disciplinary team and support staff; prioritize workload and manage team capacity; communicate clearly in writing and orally; knowledge of relevant legislative frameworks; demonstrate a flexible, adaptable attitude; understanding of health and safety issues; knowledge of financial and care management IT systems; flexibility in deployment and work bases; ability to meet travel requirements; commitment to equal opportunities and diversity.
  • Experience – Desirable: Illustrate examples of service development initiated by the candidate.
