Job summary

The London Bridge Hospital in London is seeking a Medical Laboratory Assistant to join the Pathology team. The role is full-time (37.5 hours per week) in a busy, supportive laboratory environment that handles samples for inpatients, outpatients and external partners.

Working within Haematology, Biochemistry and Blood Transfusion, you will assist with specimen receipt, processing and analyser support, ensuring timely and accurate diagnostic testing while maintaining high quality standards.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of different sample types and their testing suitability.
• Understanding of laboratory test requirements and specimen handling processes.
• Awareness of urgency associated with specific tests and samples.
• Ability to work accurately within laboratory procedures and quality standards.
• Familiarity with healthcare computer systems, Meditech advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Receive, process and prepare samples for analysis, referral and storage.
• Support Biomedical Scientists with routine lab activities and analytical processes.
• Accurately register and manage samples using the Laboratory Information Management System.
• Operate, load and unload analysers, perform routine maintenance and monitor stock levels.
• Respond to temperature monitoring alerts, complete cleaning and disinfection schedules, maintain a safe lab environment.
