Overview

Axcis Education is seeking dedicated and compassionate candidate to support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH). This would be a great opportunity for candidates that want to gain real hands on experience to support future roles working in rules such, Head of Year or Alternative Provision Manager. You’ll play a vital role in supporting both academic and emotional development through a combination of 1:1 support, small group interventions, and in-class assistance. You’ll work closely with teachers, SENDCO and pastoral teams to help children feel safe, regulated and ready to learn.

Responsibilities
  • Providing 1:1 support for pupils with EHCPs
  • Leading or supporting small group interventions focused on emotional literacy, social skills, and behaviour
  • Zones of Regulation interventions
  • Emotional Coaching
  • Nurture Groups intervention
  • Social Stories intervention
  • Applying the "PACE approach" (Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity, Empathy)
  • Assisting in the creation and review of Individual Behaviour Support Plans (IBSPs)
  • Using de-escalation techniques (e.g., Team Teach, PBS, or Proactive Approaches+)
  • Encouraging positive peer interactions and building social communication skills
  • Promoting emotional regulation and resilience through consistency and structured routines
  • Contributing to the development and review of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs)
  • Working collaboratively with class teachers, SENCOs and external professionals (e.g. Educational Psychologists, CAMHS)

We’re Looking for Candidates Who
  • Have 2+ years’ experience supporting children with ASD, SEMH or challenging behaviour
  • Hold a current Team Teach or equivalent de-escalation qualification (or be willing to train)
  • Understand and apply trauma-informed strategies, including ACEs and emotional coaching
  • Demonstrate a calm, patient and compassionate approach
  • Can build strong, trusting relationships with children, staff and families
