Qteg is seeking a dedicated Pastoral Support Mentor for a long-term role in a welcoming mainstream secondary school in Islington. You will work with KS3 and KS4 students, providing one-to-one and small-group support to help manage behaviour, wellbeing and engagement.

The role requires patience, resilience and strong communication to build positive relationships with young people and to assist with reintegration after behavioural incidents.

The Role

A welcoming and inclusive mainstream secondary school in the London Borough of Islington is seeking to appoint a dedicated Pastoral Support Mentor to join its pastoral support team on a long-term basis, starting ASAP after half term.

As the successful Pastoral Support Mentor, you will work closely with students across KS3 and KS4, providing one-to-one and small-group support to help students manage their behaviour, improve their wellbeing and remain engaged with their education.

You will support students who may experience social, emotional or behavioural difficulties, helping them develop positive relationships, improve their confidence and make appropriate choices throughout the school day. You will also help identify barriers to learning and implement strategies to encourage positive behaviour, regular lesson attendance and engagement in the classroom.

Working closely with teaching staff, Heads of Year, pastoral teams and senior leadership, you will contribute to behaviour interventions, mentoring sessions and strategies designed to improve students’ attitudes towards learning. You may also support students during unstructured times, help resolve conflicts and encourage successful reintegration into lessons following behavioural incidents.

Previous experience within a pastoral or behaviour-focused role is essential. Experience working within a mainstream secondary school would be advantageous, particularly supporting students with challenging behaviour, social and emotional needs or difficulties engaging with education.

The successful candidate will be patient, resilient and approachable, with strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with young people. You will be confident managing challenging situations calmly, maintaining professional boundaries and encouraging students to take responsibility for their behaviour.
